Job Summary
Regularly survey the buildings on campus at the University of Michigan - Flint to better understand which species of birds are most impacted by window collisions.
Responsibilities*
Data collection, data entry, and data analysis involving avian collision monitoring and point counts to assess impacts of buildings and their windows on migrating birds on campus.
Required Qualifications*
- Must be a UM-Flint undergraduate student.
- Previous experience with bird monitoring and point counts needed.
- Must be able to identify birds to species by sight and/or call.
- Completed or concurrently taking BIO 480.
- Must be available to survey campus routes at least three days a week.
- Willingness to learn additional bird species by sight and/or sound.
Desired Qualifications*
- Detail-oriented, highly observant, and work well in teams.
- Should be able to identify at least 50 common birds to species and be knowledgeable enough about Michigan birds to narrow down additional species in the Flint area using proper and standard bird apps and/or field guides.
- Be familiar with the ESRI suite of applications, including ArcGIS Online and Survey123.
Modes of Work
Onsite
The work requires, or the supervisor approves a fully onsite presence. Onsite is defined as a designated U-M owned or leased work location within or outside of the State of Michigan

Background Screening
