Job Summary

The University of Michigan-Flint Department of Theatre and Dance seeks energetic, detail-oriented students for employment in the department's costume shop. All UM-Flint students are welcome, preference given to current Theatre Design and Technology majors. The Department of Theatre & Dance considers these temporary part-time positions to be internships.


Students will be working on actual productions and getting real, industry-quality hands-on experience while being supervised by professionals. Experiences like these can be listed on a resume for future jobs and graduate school applications, and are considered an important part of what it means to be a successful theatre and/or dance major.

Responsibilities*


The costume shop is responsible for building garments for the University's five main stage productions in the field of drama, musical theatre, and dance.

The responsibilities for this position include:

  • Garment construction
  • Laundry
  • Craft work
  • Stock organization/maintenance

Required Qualifications*

  • Must be a UM-Flint student
  • Sewing experience
  • Students must be interested in hands on learning
  • Availability on weekends and evenings during productions.

Modes of Work

Onsite

The work requires, or the supervisor approves a fully onsite presence. Onsite is defined as a designated U-M owned or leased work location within or outside the State of Michigan.

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.

Background Screening

The University of Michigan conducts background checks on all job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background checks. Background checks performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
