Campus Security Guard
The Campus Security Guard is a highly responsible and critical role aimed at maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, and staff. The Campus Security Guard will work collaboratively with school administrators, law enforcement agencies, and community partners to implement effective security measures and foster positive relationships within the school community. The Campus Security Guard will operate in strict compliance with all relevant state and federal regulations surrounding school security officers.

What You Will Do:

  • Maintain a safe and secure environment within the school premises. Implement security protocols and procedures to prevent unauthorized access and ensure the safety of students, faculty, and staff.
  • Be prepared to respond swiftly and effectively to emergency situations, including but not limited to intruders, fires, medical emergencies, or natural disasters. Conduct periodic emergency drills in collaboration with school staff.
  • Serve as a liaison between Thea Bowman Leadership Academy and local law enforcement agencies. Collaborate with law enforcement officers on matters related to school security and safety.
  • Mediate and de-escalate conflicts among students when necessary. Implement restorative justice practices and encourage positive conflict resolution techniques.
  • Monitor and identify potential threats, such as drugs, weapons, or other contraband, within the school premises. Conduct investigations as needed, in adherence to applicable laws and regulations.
  • Build positive relationships with students through mentorship and counseling services. Act as a positive role model, promoting good behavior, respect, and responsibility.
  • Organize and participate in security-related training sessions for school staff and students. Educate the school community on safety protocols and situational awareness.
  • Engage with parents, guardians, and community members to address safety concerns and foster a sense of community ownership in maintaining a safe school environment
Education and Experience:
  • Minimum of a high school diploma or GED; additional relevant certifications and education in law enforcement or related fields are preferred.
  • Prior experience as a law enforcement officer or in a related security role; preferred
  • Thorough understanding of federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to school security officers.
  • Strong communication, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations, including students, faculty, staff, parents, and community members.
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to build positive relationships with students and other stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Physical fitness and ability to perform security-related duties effectively.
