About the Facilities Maintenance Technician position

The Mott Foundation has an immediate opening in its Flint office for a Facilities Maintenance Technician responsible for performing essential building maintenance. Responsible for operation of service (freight) elevator, maintenance of building’s perimeter, lobby and common areas, and assisting tenants, as necessary. Maintain building signage. Work alongside other members of Facilities team, under the direction of the Facilities Engineer and Facilities Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Perform essential building maintenance. Have general knowledge of building’s HVAC, electrical and plumbing systems.
  • Assist with HVAC maintenance.
  • Minor plumbing and electrical repairs, as assigned.
  • Operate service (freight) elevator and assist tenants whenever possible in their service elevator requirements.
  • Assist with boiler teardown and reassembly.
  • Service all light fixtures accessible by a ladder, maintain lighting inventory.
  • Responsible for clean and orderly maintenance of the main lobby and common areas of both the Mott Foundation and Commerce Center Buildings, as well as the sidewalks and alley area immediately adjacent to the buildings.
  • Respond to tenant calls needing janitorial or maintenance attention during the day.
  • Learn Foundation lock and key system.
  • Maintain building signage, adding and deleting, as necessary.
  • Maintain clean and orderly work rooms in the basement.
  • Assist with weekly, monthly and annual inspections.
  • Assist with Foundation supplies as needed.
  • Visit off premises worksites as necessary.
  • Interact with contractors on a regular basis.
  • Occasional after-hours work.
  • Occasional rooftop duties.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Facilities Manager or Facilities Engineer.

Attributes

You may be a strong candidate if you have the following attributes:

  • Hands on experience in one or more of the following areas: HVAC, electrical, plumbing, key systems or boiler maintenance.
  • You’re a self-starter, with attention to detail, capable of working on multiple tasks on deadline and under pressure.
  • You work collaboratively, building relationships, trust and credibility along the way.
  • You work well in a fluid environment where priorities may change quickly.
  • You would welcome feedback to improve the effectiveness of your work and that of the Facilities Department.

Qualifications and requirements

  • An associate’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in this position is required. Preference may be given to candidates who have taken courses or have previous work experience in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, key systems, boiler maintenance or related areas.
  • Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to regularly utilize ladders and stairs.
  • 5-10 years of experience in facilities/maintenance.
  • The position requires an on-site presence in the Flint office Monday through Friday.
