About the Communications Design Associate position

The Charles Stewart Mott Foundation seeks a communications design associate to provide graphic design support to advance the work of the Foundation. This position is based at the Foundation’s headquarters in Flint, Michigan, with some remote work.

Responsibilities

• Design visually engaging and accessible print and digital materials. Assist Foundation staff with publication layouts, infographics, maps, illustrations, social media posts and other design needs.
• Oversee multiple design projects and their deadlines from concept to delivery.
• Collaborate on Foundation-wide projects led by the Communications Department, such as our annual report and communications related to our forthcoming 100th anniversary.

• You work collaboratively with teams to gather project requirements, establish timelines, provide status updates, and effectively receive and incorporate feedback.
• You have strong time management and prioritization skills that can help you simultaneously manage multiple design projects from start to completion.
• You work well in a fluid environment where priorities may change quickly.
• You are self-motivated to stay up to date with design trends, tools and best practices.
• You work to ensure your designs are accessible and can be understood and enjoyed by as many people as possible.

Qualifications and requirements

• A degree in graphic design or visual communications, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in this position.
• Three to five years of experience as a designer.
• Proficiency in InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop applications is required.
• Ability to edit and occasionally create designs using Microsoft Office products, especially PowerPoint.
• Video editing, animation and illustration skills are a plus.
• Proofreading skills are a plus.
• Experience with MailChimp, Microsoft Teams, WordPress and Canva are also a plus.
• The position requires an on-site presence in the Flint office Monday through Thursday, with the option to work remotely on Friday. Employees may flex their hours earlier in the week to work a half day on Friday, and they also have an additional bank of remote workdays each year.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States.
