GENERAL SUMMARY: Under the clinical supervision of a licensed provider, the Certified Medical Assistant will assist in performing various types of medical and laboratory procedures and provide clerical support to MCHC staff delivering Center health services. The Certified Medical Assistant works as a member of the care team. There is an ongoing interaction of team members to discuss roles, responsibilities, communication, and patient care coordination among team members, working together to provide and enhance the care provided by the practice. Compiles and enters program/billing data.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Ensure accurate and complete medical records, obtain necessary information for preparing new records, ascertain insurance information, file and maintain confidentiality of all records, including clinical test results.
- Assist with clinical procedures, prepare clients for examination, take routine vital signs and standard growth and development. Document in EHR.
- Provide laboratory procedures: phlebotomy/venipuncture, urine specimen collection and processing capillary blood sampling and other CLIA waived testing.
- Perform expanded duties including medication refills, administer immunizations/injections, obtain cultures, remove sutures, EKG or other procedural assistance requested by medical provider.
- Maintain cleanliness of client care units, equipment and work areas and assure areas are adequately supplied.
- Compile patient census data and prepare various administrative reports as assigned.
- Maintain good infection control practices.
- Maintain supply and equipment, inventory and ordering.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide clerical/receptionist support, greet/screen clients and visitors, provide client orientation, answer/screen telephone calls, schedule/confirm appointments, take messages, process clients for MCHC providers and/or contracted health services.
- Answer multi-line phone system, screen calls, take and direct calls/messages as appropriate.
- Greet, assist, route clients and visitors as they enter the department.
- Prepare client records utilizing department guidelines and update consent forms, insurance information and demographic information regularly.
- Pull, prepare, and review client records assuring that information in the record matches information in department database, making corrections when necessary.
- Perform clerical duties, data entry, statistical reporting, word processing, photocopying and ordering supplies as requested.
- Coordinate follow up care for children seen in ER/urgent care per established CAH/P guidelines.
- Order necessary supplies for the Center or department health services.
- Participate in chart reviews and other Quality Improvement Projects.
- May be required to cover School Based Clinics.
- Other job-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:
Required Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant Program is required.
- Must have current and active certification through one of the following credentialing agencies:
- Registered Medical Assistant [RMA] – American Medical Technologists [AMT]
- Certified Medical Assistant [CMA] – American Association of Medical Assistants [AAMA]
- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant [CCMA] – National Healthcareer Association [NHA]
- National Certified Medical Assistant [NCMA] – National Center for Competency Testing [NCCT]
- Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant [NRCMA] – National Association for Health Professionals [NAHP]
- Registered Medical Assistant(AAH) [RMA(AAH)] – American Allied Health [AAH]
- One year of clinical MA work experience in pediatrics/adolescents, not including externships is preferred.
- Current CPR certification required.
- Basic computer skills with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook required.
- Intermediate computer skills with EHR/EMR/EDR/EPM required.
- Must have the ability to understand and execute both oral and written orders.
- Must have a reliable vehicle, a valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record and a minimum insurance coverage or available transportation to travel for the purposes of required Health Center business.
