Who We Want
Miller Industries is seeking an Engineering Design Checker to work in our Flex Air Division in Fenton, MI. The Engineering Design Checker ensures that all engineering drawings, details, and models meet quality standards, project specifications, and industry codes. This role is responsible for performing detailed reviews of drawings and 3D models, running clash detection in BIM environments, and coordinating with design and engineering teams to resolve discrepancies. The position ensures that deliverables are accurate, constructible, and compliant prior to release for fabrication and construction.
What You Will Be Doing
  • Review engineering drawings and details for accuracy, quality, and conformance to standards.
  • Run clash detection and model coordination checks in Navisworks and BIM environments.
  • Verify that SolidWorks models align with drawing packages and meet design intent.
  • Provide redline markups, quality checklists, and review reports to design and detailing teams.
  • Review fabrication and assembly drawings for dimensional accuracy, tolerances, material specifications, and consistency with approved designs.
  • Verify proper application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), including datum selection, feature control frames, and tolerance stack-ups, in accordance with applicable ASME Y14.5 requirements.
  • Check structural steel drawings and details for conformance with applicable American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) standards and project specifications.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T and its application to drawing interpretation, manufacturing, and inspection.
  • Familiarity with the AISC Steel Construction Manual, applicable AISC specifications, and standard structural steel detailing practices.
  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and detailers to resolve issues and prevent rework.
  • Maintain drawing and model review logs, documenting non-conformances and corrective actions.
  • Support implementation of internal quality standards and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, specifications, and customer requirements.
  • Assist in coordination meetings by presenting clash reports and quality review findings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What Requirements Are Needed
  • Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Drafting, or related field; or equivalent industry experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in engineering drawing review, detailing, or BIM coordination.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks and Navisworks (required).
  • Familiarity with Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), Revit, or similar BIM platforms (preferred).
  • Strong understanding of engineering and detailing workflows.
  • Excellent organizational skills with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to identify and resolve design clashes and drawing errors.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills for documenting and communicating findings.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with task/process automation or VBA/.NET (a plus).
