Who We Want
We are currently seeking a Team Lead – Shipping and Receiving Department for 1st Shift in Fenton, Michigan. Our 1st Shift are Monday – Friday, 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with some overtime on weekends for production.
The Shipping and Receiving Team Lead plays a critical leadership role in overseeing daily material movement and shipping and receiving operations across multiple Miller Industries campuses. This position ensures accurate, efficient, and safe handling of inbound and outbound materials in support of fabrication and production operations.
What You Will Be Doing
  • Lead and coordinate daily shipping and receiving activities across multiple Miller Industries sites and campuses.
  • Provide direct oversight and work direction to forklift drivers and material handlers during loading, unloading, and internal material movements.
  • Serve as the first point of escalation for material movement, staging, loading, or shipping discrepancies, ensuring timely resolution.
  • Coordinate with fabrication, production, logistics, and management teams to ensure materials are staged and delivered according to production and shipping schedules.
  • Verify that outbound shipments are properly packed, labeled, secured, and aligned with shipping documentation.
  • Inspect outgoing loads for accuracy, quality, and compliance prior to departure.
  • Assist with inbound shipments by verifying quantities, documentation accuracy, and material condition upon receipt.
  • Enforce company safety policies and procedures during all shipping and receiving operations.
  • Ensure forklift operators follow approved lifting, stacking, and load‑securing practices.
  • Audit forklift and material handling equipment inspection and maintenance records.
  • Coordinate with maintenance teams and external vendors to address equipment service or repair needs.
  • Mentor, train, and support team members, promoting best practices, safety awareness, and operational efficiency.
  • Assist with onboarding and cross‑training to ensure adequate coverage across shifts and locations.
  • Provide vacation and absence coverage within the Shipping and Receiving department as needed.
  • Support consistent material handling and shipping practices across all Miller Industries locations.
  • Perform all duties listed within this job description and additional responsibilities as required to support organizational objectives.
  • Maintain flexibility to work overtime and weekends when operational demands require.

What Requirements Are Needed
  • Minimum of 3 years of direct, hands‑on experience in shipping, receiving, and materials control operations.
  • Previous experience in a lead or supervisory role within a manufacturing or industrial environment preferred.
  • Previous forklift (Hi‑Lo) certification, with ability to recertify and demonstrated experience operating material handling equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Working knowledge of inventory control methodologies, including receiving accuracy, material traceability, inventory counts, and stock movement control.
  • Proficiency with basic office software, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and email, for reporting, documentation, and communication.
  • Ability to read and interpret shipping documents, bills of lading, and production or staging schedules.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Proven leadership and team coordination abilities.
  • Strong understanding of shipping, receiving, and material handling operations.
  • Ability to manage priorities across multiple sites and shifting demands.
  • Commitment to safety, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
  • Effective mentoring and employee development skills.
