Position Summary:

The Trauma PI Safety Specialist supports the Trauma Program’s Performance Improvement and Patient Safety (PIPS) activities, including review of trauma care across the continuum of care, case-finding, and audit of medical records. Provides coordination and facilitation of performance improvement activities, including trending and benchmarking of data outcomes. This role also is responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of Trauma Injury Prevention and community outreach programs and develops relationships with established program leaders within the community a minimum of 0.2 FTE.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Under the general supervision of the Trauma Program Manager and Trauma Medical Director, functions to include, but not limited to:

1. Performs and / or supervises medical record audits related to various trauma Quality Improvement indicators to identify problems and / or trends in trauma care for referral to providers.

2. Responsible for providing feedback to referral hospitals / physicians regarding patient outcomes.

3. Regularly attends Trauma Multidisciplinary Peer Review Physician meeting

a. Prepares chart reviews and summaries for Trauma Peer Review / Morbidity and Mortality Committee.

Required:

· Current Registered Nurse license in the state of Michigan

· Associate’s degree in Nursing

· 2 years clinical experience in Trauma, ER, or CCU

· Five years of recent nursing experience in surgical care, critical care, and/or an emergency department with increasing responsibility and interest in the trauma care

· Current ACLS certification required before start date (valid at least 60 days beyond start date)

Preferred:

· Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN)

· Experience in quality improvement and patient safety

· TNCC (Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum), PALS, ENPC, ATCN, FCCS, CCRN
