Job Summary:

The Medical Assistant provides vital clinical and administrative support in a healthcare setting. This role involves assisting healthcare providers with patient care, managing office tasks, and ensuring smooth daily operations. The ideal candidate will be organized, detail-oriented, and versatile, with the ability to perform a range of medical and administrative duties tailored to departmental needs.

Duties:
  • Greet patients and assist with check-in processes.
  • Collect and record patient medical histories, vital signs, and other relevant information.
  • Prepare patients for examinations and procedures, ensuring their comfort and understanding.
  • Assist healthcare providers with various clinical tasks based on departmental requirements (e.g., administering medications, assisting with procedures).
  • Maintain and prepare examination rooms, ensuring they are clean and equipped.
  • Schedule patient appointments and manage provider calendars.
  • Coordinate referrals, follow-up visits, and other patient-related activities.
  • Accurately enter and update patient information in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems.
  • Ensure data accuracy and accessibility for healthcare providers.
  • Address and resolve patient concerns and complaints professionally and promptly.
  • Assist with processing insurance authorizations and referrals as needed.
  • Support billing processes by preparing necessary documentation and submitting claims.
  • Monitor and manage medical and office supplies, including ordering and restocking as necessary.
  • Assist in training new Medical Assistants and support their integration into the team.
  • All other duties as assigned by the Manager.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a Medical Assistant program or certification preferred.
  • No prior experience required; entry-level position with opportunities for on-the-job training.
  • Proficiency in clinical and administrative tasks relevant to the department.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) or equivalent is a plus, but not required for entry-level.
Physical Demands (Essential Functions):
  • Ability to stand and/or walk for prolonged periods of time (up to 6–8 hours per shift).
  • Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and move freely between exam rooms, patient areas, and workstations.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 25 lbs independently and up to 50 lbs with assistance, as required for patient care or equipment movement.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate medical instruments, perform phlebotomy, administer injections, and use computers and office equipment.
  • Visual acuity (corrected if necessary) sufficient to read charts, labels, and electronic health records.
  • Auditory ability (corrected if necessary) to respond to patient needs, instructions, and alarms.
  • Clear verbal communication to interact effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
  • OSHA Exposure Classification: Job Category I. Direct contact with blood or other body fluids to which universal precautions apply. Personal protective equipment is made available and must be worn.
