Supervises and/or participates in the installation, maintenance and repair of all electrical wiring, apparatus, control systems, fixtures motors, industrial instruments, and other equipment. Participates in quality assessment and continuous quality improvement activities. Complies with all appropriate safety and infection control standards. Performs all job duties and responsibilities in a courteous and customer-focused manner according to the Hurley Family Standards of Behavior. Works under the supervision of the departmental director or designee who assigns and checks work for conformance with established standards. May exercise partial supervision over a few electrical helpers, and electrician apprentices.

High School Diploma or GED.

Experience as a journeyman electrician or completion of a recognized apprenticeship.

Considerable knowledge of the standard practices, materials, tools and equipment of the trade.

Possession of a valid State of Michigan Electrician's license.

Considerable knowledge of the hazards and precautionary methods peculiar to the trade.

Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code.

Ability to work from drawings and specifications and to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions.

Skill in the use of tools and in the operation of equipment of the trade.

Skill in locating and adjusting defects in electrical systems and equipment.

Ability to use hand/power tools requiring manual dexterity such as tightening and torquing bolts, nuts, screws, and so forth.

Ability to use power tools or equipment.

Ability to work on elevated surfaces and in confined areas.

Ability to stand, stoop, bend, climb ladders, etc.

Ability to read blueprints, wiring diagrams, equipment manuals, and other printed materials.

Ability to withstand extremes in temperature.

Ability to meet the physical, mental and visual standards of the job.

Ability and willingness to work in a manner that will not needlessly endanger the safety to one's self, other persons and equipment.

Ability to coordinate assignments and work with other trades.

Ability to maintain harmonious relationships with Medical Center employees, patients, physicians, regulatory agencies, and the general public.

1. Supervises and participates in installation, alteration, maintenance and repair of wiring systems, electrical motors, transformers, wiring, conduit, lighting fixtures, electrical control devices, meters, electronic timing control and electrically operated devices. 2. Supervises and participates in diagnosing and repair of malfunctioning electrical systems, apparatus, and components using appropriate test equipment and hand tools.


2. Supervises and participates in inspection of electrical systems, equipment and components to identify hazards, defects and need for adjustment or repair to assure compliance with associated codes and safety standards.


3. Installs and maintains variety of systems including master clocks, card access, paging, parking, and nurse call systems.


4. Makes emergency repairs and adjustments; locates and clears open or short circuits. 6. Maintains stock of electrical fittings, wire and conduit and instruments as required.


5. Assists in planning and installation of electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes.


6. Orients and trains electrical apprentices to install, repair, and maintain electrical systems and equipment as needed.


7. Utilizes and maintains personal protective equipment and tools as necessary.


8. Keeps necessary records of service and repairs of assigned equipment.
