In a training situation, and initially performing less difficult work; sets up equipment for special procedures x-rays; assists in positioning patients for examination; assists physicians by performing sterile procedures; maintains images and other records; performs related work as required. Complies with all appropriate safety and infection control standards. Participates in quality assessment and continuous quality improvement activities. Performs all job duties and responsibilities in a courteous and customer-focused manner according to the Hurley Family Standards of Behavior.Works under the administrative and technical supervision of the Invasive Cardiovascular Manager or designee and the medical supervision of the Cardiologist who checks work for conformance to established standards.

• High school graduate and/or GED equivalent.
• Completion of a recognized educational program in Diagnostic Radiology.
• One (1) year of experience as a Registered Diagnostic Radiological Technologist.
• Working knowledge of the methods and techniques of x-ray photography, including positioning patients, adjusting and operating equipment and processing and developing x-ray films, cine films and videos.
• Knowledge of human anatomy as related to special radiological, cardiac, diagnostic procedures.
• Knowledge of effective methods and techniques in administering special procedures x-rays, of the hazards involved in this work for equipment operators and patients, and of effective precautionary measures.
• Ability to maintain records and files of photographic work.
• Ability to maintain harmonious relationships with physicians, patients, public and other medical center personnel.

NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

• Registration by the ARRT as a Radiologic Technologist

NOTE: Incumbents who have completed a recognized educational program in Diagnostic Radiology will progress to the classification of Cardiovascular Studies Unit Technologist after six months HMC on-the-job Cardiovascular Studies Unit Technologist training. Incumbents who have completed a recognized educational program in Diagnostic Radiology and a recognized educational program in special radiologic procedures (a six month on-the-job-training in special procedures may substitute for the special radiologic procedures educational program) after four months HMC on-the-job Cardiovascular Studies Unit Technologist training. Incumbents must also be rated at least satisfactory on their probationary appraisals prior to progressing to the higher classification. Incumbents must also successful complete their probationary period prior to progressing to the higher classification.

1. Assists in performance of special examinations, including but not limited to cardiac angiograms, pacemaker insertions, pressure lines and pulmonary angiography.
2. Assists in the preparation of images and records for use by providers and other medical personnel.
3. Assists providers in diagnostic and interventional procedures.
4. Administers intravenous media; monitors patient reactions to procedures performed.
5. Operates computerized equipment.
6. Requisitions necessary drugs and supplies to maintain an adequate level in examination room.
7. Assists in cleaning special procedures rooms and equipment; makes simple repairs as required.
8. May perform work of a Registered Diagnostic Technologist.
9. Demonstrates effective judgement and ability to understand, react competently, and treat (if appropriate) the unique needs of patient age groups served.
10. Performs other related duties as required, including new improvements and/or technology that relate to job assignment.
