GENERAL SUMMARY: The Admission Liaison works in coordination with administrators, social workers, nursing, and physicians both inside and outside of the Medical Center to: screen patients for appropriateness of admission to Hurley’s Behavioral Health Unit, obtain prior authorization for all admissions, and speak with patients and family members throughout the evaluation process, as appropriate. The Admissions Liaison will track admission and denial trends as well as referral sources. Participates in quality assessment and continuous quality improvement activities. Complies with all appropriate safety and infection control standards. Performs all job duties in a courteous and customer-focused manner according to the Medical Center’s Courtesy Standards.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the direct supervision of the Service Line Administrator or designee who assigns areas of responsibility and reviews results for compliance with established standards.
- Graduation from a recognized school of nursing with licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in Michigan.
- Three (3) years RN experience, one (1) year of RN experience in desired clinical sub-specialty area of Behavioral Health.
- Computer skills including statistical, word-processing, graphic, spreadsheet, and database programs.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and writing.
- Ability to problem solve and work with minimal supervision when appropriate.
- Ability to work in a detailed-oriented environment.
- Ability to create, implement, and maintain databases and reports in spreadsheet formats.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with Medical Center personnel, research personnel, physicians, nurses, patients, outside of referral sources, and the general public.
- Analyzes referral patterns of physicians and outside referral sources and prioritizes time appropriately to increase business.
- Works with Hurley Medical Center marketing department to determine needs of patients and referral sources to capitalize on education opportunities through new collateral materials and presentations.
- Develops relationships with current and potential referral sources.
- Coordinates meetings and works with referral sources to drive census growth in an efficient manner.
- Targets and builds relationships with care coordinators.
- Provides reporting trends and activity to Leadership Team.
- For those referrals that are appropriate for admission, collects appropriate patient information and completes the documentation that is required for admission. Provides patient and family education related to the inpatient behavioral health unit. Collaborates with the referring hospital staff, inpatient staff and admitting physician to determine an admission plan.
- Completes pre-admission screening when appropriate and assures that appropriate physician review is completed prior to admission.
- Develops and maintains effective working relationships with all referral sources. Facilitates professional communication with each employee of the referring hospital.
- Encourages, coaches, and monitors teamwork and direct communication with co-workers.

- Maintains a high level of current knowledge about each referral hospital and the associated patient populations.
- Develops and maintains excellent working relationship with Network Partners and their admissions team.
