Provides professional, timely, patient-oriented pharmaceutical services in any of the Pharmacy service areas. Directs activities of personnel assigned to the service area; participates in education and training functions. Assists in improvement and development of pharmaceutical services. Subscribes to the concept of Pharmaceutical Care. Participates in quality assessment and continuous quality improvement activities. Complies with all appropriate safety and infection control standards. Performs all job duties and responsibilities in a courteous and customer-focused manner according to the Hurley Family Standards of Behavior.Works under the general supervision of a Pharmacy Supervisor.


  • Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited school/college of Pharmacy.
  • Completion of an academic clinical clerkship which involved monitoring of patient drug therapy and the pharmacokinetic dosing of patients.
  • NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must possess a current education/training Pharmacy Intern Limited license as issued by the State of Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulations and Board of Pharmacy.
  • NOTE: Candidates hired must obtain Michigan licensure as a Registered Pharmacist and Michigan Controlled Substance license within three (3) months from date of hire. Failure to obtain the required licensure within the specified time frame will result in termination of employment.
    1. Reviews medication orders received for completeness and legality; verifies appropriateness of prescribed dose, route, frequency, and duration of therapy; screens for physical/ chemical incompatibilities.

    2. Compares received orders with patient medication profiles to identify potential therapeutic problems, including allergies, drug duplication, interactions, and other contraindications.

    3. Prepares or directs preparation of medication orders according to standards and protocols.

    4. Calculates medication dosage and dosing intervals based on serum drug levels and patient disease/organ function status, according to pharmacokinetic principles.

    5. Assists pharmacist in monthly department/unit reviews to assure proper storage/use of medications and compliance with legal/regulatory standards.

    6. Provides information to physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals for new and current medication agents. Conducts drug use reviews, and other educational activities for patients, physicians, nurses, students, and other personnel.

    7. Personally subscribes to the concept of Pharmaceutical Care. Accepts responsibility to monitor medication therapies and their outcomes.

    8. Maintains necessary records for service areas, e.g. drug distribution, charge information, controlled substance dispensing, and drug pre-packaging records.

    9. Assists with the order, receipt, monitor, control and storage of pharmaceuticals.

    10. Participates in the development, review, maintenance and enforcement of Formulary of Accepted Drugs.

    11. Participates in drug utilization review activities, medical audits, and medical care evaluations.

    12. Demonstrates effective judgement and ability to understand, react competently, and treat (if appropriate) the unique needs of patient age groups served.

    13. Performs other related activities/services as assigned.
