Sterile Processing Supervisor - 1st Shift

Supervises the cleaning, sterilizing, storing, ordering, maintenance, and delivery of medical equipment, supplies, and instruments and supervises and assists with the preparation and distribution of supplies for specialty units. Participates in quality assessment and continuous quality improvement activities. Ensures compliance with all appropriate safety and infection control standards. Performs all job duties and responsibilities in a courteous and customer-focused manner according to the Hurley Family Standards of Behavior and Management Code of Conduct. Works under the supervision of the Sterile Processing Manager or designee who assigns and inspects work for compliance with prescribed procedures and techniques.Exercises working supervision over a number of employees engaged in sterile processing activities.
- Supervises and participates in activities of sterile processing services in accordance with prescribed procedures, standards, and techniques including cleaning, sterilizing, storing, ordering, maintaining, and delivering medical equipment, supplies and instruments; preparing, distributing and delivering equipment, packs, instrument sets, case carts, and trays; and cleaning and operating equipment.
- Assigns, monitors, and evaluates work of personnel. Develops, monitors, and ensures adherence to policies and procedures to accomplish agreed-upon objectives. Maintains efficient productivity and customer service standards.
- Develops staffing and work schedules for personnel. Approves leaves, vacations, personal days, and overtime. Accurately computes and initiates payroll data.
- Interviews, evaluates, disciplines, and, when necessary, recommends discharge of staff. Completes performance reviews in timely manner. Answers grievances.
- Identifies, plans, and assists in orientation, training, and in-service/continuing education of personnel.
- Assists manager in development of departmental objectives, operating, and capital budgets.
- Monitors sterilizers and equipment to ensure proper operating conditions. Maintains pertinent records for compliance with standards, policies, and regulations.
- Supervises inspection of surgical linens.
- Assists in maintaining inventory records of all sterile processing items. Prepares requisitions for addition/replacement of stock. Assists with maintaining schedule and preparation of charges as appropriate.
- Confers with physician, nursing units, and other Medical Center areas to identify and resolve problems, gather information, and address issues or concerns.
- May give technical advice relative to use and care of equipment and supplies.
- Ensures departmental work areas are clean, orderly, and safe.
- Compiles and maintains departmental records. Ensures reports are processed in timely manner.
- Demonstrates effective judgment and ability to understand, react effectively, and treat (if appropriate) the unique needs of patient age groups serviced.
