This position is Full time FTE: 1.0 (80 hrs/per pay) 7:00 p.m.-7:30 a.m Every Other Weekend

Three (3) years of clinical experience as a Registered Nurse is required (please show this on your application)

Participates in all nursing care functions. Assists with orientation of new staff members. Is in charge of unit for specific shift in the absence of the Nurse Manager. Participates in quality assessment and continuous quality improvement activities. Complies with all appropriate safety and infection control standards. Performs related duties as assigned. Performs all job duties and responsibilities in a courteous and customer-focused manner according to the Medical Center's Courtesy Standards. Works under supervision of Nurse Manager, or nurse engaged in administrative control of department or unit. Directs the work of members of the nursing care unit.


  • Graduation from a recognized school of nursing with licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in Michigan.
  • Three (3) years RN experience, one (1) year of RN experience in desired clinical sub-specialty area.
  • One (1) year bargaining unit seniority.
  • Must obtain BLS certification upon start of position and must maintain certification per AHA guidelines.
  • Must have completed charge orientation.
  • Ability to direct the work of subordinate personnel.
  • Thorough knowledge of general nursing theory and practice.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with other employees of the medical center, both professional and non-professional.
  • Ability to be empathetic, patient and tactful while dealing with patients.

  1. Assists in development, planning, organization and management of specified nursing unit.
  2. Supervises and participates in administering the most effective nursing care possible to patients on assigned unit in conjunction with or in place of Nurse Manager.
  3. Does patient care assessments with staff members.
  4. Establishes nursing care plans and assumes responsibility for recording these plans on the Kardex.
  5. Assumes responsibility of the unit on assigned shift.
  6. Maintains knowledge of patients' conditions; recognizes and interprets symptoms, reports patients' conditions and assists with or institutes remedial measures for adverse developments.
  7. Provides nursing care according to physicians' orders and in conformance with recognized nursing techniques and procedures, established standards and administrative policies.
  8. Maintains accurate and complete records of nursing observations, patient response and nursing care given.
  9. Does performance evaluations for other staff members including Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse, and Nursing Assistant; evaluates and reviews assignments.
  10. Holds individual and group conferences with staff to clarify responsibilities and how they should be carried out as necessary.
  11. Maintains expertise through appropriate educational organizational activities.
  12. Demonstrates effective judgment and ability to understand, react effectively and treat (if appropriate) the unique needs of patient age groups served.
  13. Performs other related duties as required. Utilizes new improvements and/or technology that relate to job assignment.
