Job Description

Performs a variety of complex professional accounting duties within the areas of financial analysis and general accounting; maintains various account reconciliations and prepares all monthly/quarterly standard reports; assists other departmental personnel; and works on special projects. Participates in quality assessment and continuous quality improvement activities. Complies with all appropriate Safety and Infection Control Standards. Performs all job duties and responsibilities in a courteous and customer-focused manner according to the Hurley Family Standards of Behavior. Works under the general direction of an Administrative or Finance employee of higher grade. May exercise working supervision over lower level accounting employees.

Responsibilities

  1. Performs monthly account reconciliations and summarizes and produces various accounting journals. Assists with overall general accounting duties.

  2. Assists with the research of all accounting questions from department managers including recommending correcting entries and the evaluation of the month end accruals by researching budget to actual comparisons.

  3. Prepares, schedules, and accumulates various statistical information requested by auditors, and supervisors. Provides assistance to auditors as required. All data must be stored electronically in a commonly used format such as work, excel or adobe reader.

  4. Completes on-line banking transactions within the internal accounting control limitations.

  5. Prepares monthly financial statements, quarterly consolidated health system and bond financial statements, and a variety of special projects/assignments such as capital reports, restricted reports and pediatric donation committee summaries 6. Generates the monthly financial records and periodic financial statements for other related entities as identified such as, but not limited to, the Hurley Foundation. 7. Promotes the effective and efficient flow of information pertaining to finance/accounting by developing and implementing new/revised policies, practices, and/or procedures including the assistance with implementing new software applications..

  6. Performs other related duties a necessary/assigned within internal accounting control limitations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, business.
  • Two (2) years of work experience in a health care environment with responsibility for complex accounting procedures and/or financial planning.
  • Public accounting experience preferred.
  • Ability to develop and implement techniques to determine the financial feasibility of various programs and services.
  • Knowledge of complex accounting principles, procedures, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft word computer applications.
  • Knowledge of microcomputer applications pertaining to accounting and financial analysis including complex Excel applications such as pivot tables.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Medical Center staff and the general public.
