Audit and Privacy Specialist
Job Description
Participates in examining and analyzing financial and statistical records of Medical Center departments and affiliated agencies. Assists in conducting audits throughout the Medical Center. Prepares detailed reports of findings to Internal Audit Director or others as assigned. Participates in assessment and continuous improvement activities. Complies with all infection control and safety standards. Participates in HIPAA privacy related matters tracking and follow up. Performs all job duties and responsibilities in a courteous and customer-focused manner according to the Hurley Family Standards of Behavior. Works under the general supervision of the Director of Internal Audit & Privacy Officer or designee who reviews work primarily through conferences and reports. Exercises working supervision over lower level professional and clinical employees engaged in privacy and audit function.
Responsibilities
- Conducts privacy monitoring tracking and acts as a liaison for privacy monitoring company and departmental managers for privacy investigations.
- Prepares needed reports for privacy activity.
- Works with privacy monitoring software and becomes an expert user.
- Documents information provided by supervisors from privacy investigations conducted and maintains required documentation.
- Reports results of monitoring and investigations to the Privacy Committee and others as requested.
- Stays current on changes with HIPAA privacy rules through various reading and resource monitoring.
- Conducts communication and education activities around privacy. Assists Privacy Officer with as needed with communication.
- Monitor and analyze risks associated with user access, transactions and system configuration changes in various hospital systems including Oracle, EPIC and others as assigned. Maintain documentation and follow up on investigations on such matters.
- Perform access reviews, role analysis, and security audits on various hospital systems including Oracle, EPIC and others as assigned.
- Performs monitoring and auditing activities of various areas on a monthly, quarterly, or annual basis as assigned.
- System Administrator for privacy monitoring and tracking software.
- Assists with reviews of operational performance of various policies, plans, and procedures of Medical Center departments through analytical techniques as assigned.
- Prepares reports of findings of all reviews and audits. Analyzes effectiveness of existing operational systems and recommends revisions of policies, procedures and practices as a result of review and audit outcomes.
- Conducts process steps of audit plans and reviews of internal controls under the direction of higher level staff.
- Assists with internal audits conducted on Medical Center data.
- Assists in planning activity of auditing department and developing annual audit plan.
- Assists in coordination of internal audit scheduling.
- Performs other related duties as required. Adapts to change and incorporates new technologies that relate to job assignment.
Qualifications
- Associate's Degree in Healthcare, Business, or Accounting
- Working knowledge of computer systems including Google Docs, Sheets and Slides and Microsoft Office, with special emphasis on Excel
- Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form including group presentations
- Ability to compile, analyze and evaluate data and translate such into meaningful information
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with supervisors, departmental directions/managers, physicians, other Medical center staff and external parties
- Ability to read and interpret regulations and policies as they apply to healthcare operations
- Ability to prepare accurate and detailed reports
- Demonstrated appropriate use of independent judgment and ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability and willingness to maintain effective working relationships with Administration, employees, outside vendors, and the general public.
