Job Description

Sets up equipment and positions patients for diagnostic x-rays; positions patients for examinations; assists physicians by performing sterile procedures; develops x-ray films; maintains film files and other records. Participates in quality assessment and continuous quality improvement activities. Complies with all appropriate safety and infection control standards. Performs all job duties and responsibilities in a courteous and customer-focused manner according to the Hurley Family Standards of Behavior.Works under the administrative and technical supervision of the Diagnostic Radiology Supervisor or designee and the medical supervision of the Medical Director of Radiology.

Responsibilities

  1. Schedules and prepares patients for diagnostic x-rays. Loads film holders and cassettes. Takes and prepares diagnostic x-rays.

  2. Transports patients to and from radiology. Returns patients to rooms after completion of treatment or study.

  3. Requisitions drugs and supplies to maintain adequate inventory in examination room.

  4. Under direction of physician, administers intravenous media and inserts urethral catheters. Monitors patient reactions to procedures performed.

  5. Marks and sorts film for filing. Prepares x-ray envelopes and records. Files films and records.

  6. Operates computerized equipment and assists in making simple repairs to equipment.

  7. Assists in in-service orientation of newly hired departmental personnel.

  8. Serves as clinical instructor for radiology students including direct supervision of radiology students until they achieve competency and indirect supervisor of radiology students after they achieve competency. Evaluates students on their competency and completes monthly clinical rotation forms.

  9. Assists in cleaning diagnostic rooms and equipment. Makes simple repairs to equipment as required.

  10. May assist Special Procedures/CT Technologists in performing special examinations.

  11. Demonstrates effective judgement and ability to understand, react effectively and treat (if appropriate) the unique needs of patient age groups served.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a recognized two (2) year program in Diagnostic Radiology.
  • Registration by the ARRT as a radiographer.
  • Working knowledge of the methods and techniques of x-ray photography, including positioning patients, adjusting and operating equipment, and processing and developing x-ray films.
  • Knowledge of human anatomy as related to diagnostic radiologic work.
  • Knowledge of effective methods and techniques in administering diagnostic x-rays, of the hazards involved in this work for equipment operators and patients, and of effective precautionary measures.
  • Ability to maintain records and files of photographic work.
  • Ability to maintain harmonious relationships with physicians, patients, public, and other Medical Center personnel.
