MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in natural science, interpretation, biology, earth science, environmental education, outdoor education, the biological sciences or related field -AND- one (1) year of coordinating experience;

-OR-

Associate's degree in Natural Sciences or Education -AND- four (4) years of experience working with a nature or outdoor education program in a professional capacity.

JOB SUMMARY: Performs a variety of professional duties planning and organizing environmental education programs associated with the nature preserve, arboretum, Visitor's Center, and outdoors both at the facility, and in the county parks; promotes public interest in environmental education and makes recommendations concerning interpretive programming; works under supervision; performs related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS:

  • Plans and conducts programs for a diverse audience.
  • Conducts a diversified program including exhibits, trails, illustrated lectures, field trips and other features related to outdoor education.
  • Plans and prepares interpretive materials including displays, photos, maps, charts, slides, signs, publications, leaflets and other related materials.
  • Coordinates and schedules outdoor education activities.
  • Prepares necessary reports and records.
  • Delivers oral and visual presentations to groups and individuals related to outdoor education activities.
  • Promotes and maintains cooperative working relationships with Parks and Recreation employees, volunteers, schools and community groups.
  • Maintains inventory required for outdoor education activities.
  • Makes recommendations regarding the outdoor education budget.
  • Coordinates the activities of subordinate employees and/or volunteers.
  • Researches, writes, and manages grants.
  • Serves as a liaison to the Friends of For-Mar Foundation.
  • Coordinates the outdoor environment of the Nature Preserve - including trails, wildlife populations, plant associations, etc.
  • Works collaboratively with the Horticulture staff.
  • Coordinates gift shop retail operation.
