Description

Position Summary

The Small Business Support Assistant role exists to build a more vibrant and prosperous Flint & Genesee County by supporting Small Business programs. This position will support the administration of the small business-focused programs of the Flint & Genesee Economic Alliance (FGEA). These programs are specifically designed to assist area small businesses and entrepreneurs find new customers/suppliers, gain access to capital, or receive specialized coaching and technical assistance to grow their business.

The Small Business Support Assistant will work closely with the Program Director of Business Services and daily duties include general small business program support and organizing small business events and general administrative support.

The ideal candidate is driven to make a difference, motivated to serve local small businesses and entrepreneurs in our community, and has strong organizational and communication skills.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Maintain various computer databases used to manage company information and resources by inputting and compiling daily meeting notes and advising sessions surveys and tracking monthly metrics.

  • Supports the internal needs of the Small Business program, including but not limited to subscriptions, marketing, training, database management, office supplies and client records.
  • Provide scheduling support related to programs and projects
  • Respond to client and partner calls and emails and answer questions about services
  • Responsible for developing quarterly Small Business Newsletter
  • Assist the Small Business staff with research and problem solving on behalf of businesses.
  • Organize and manage office hour schedules for staff and partners
  • Back up support in documenting discussions and outcomes of office hour
  • Maintain, keep track and update compliance documentation and metrics.
  • Support various FGEA small business, funding, networking, and technical assistance programs.
  • Assist in promoting small business events, trainings and programs of FGEA and partners
  • Serve as the support person on small business issues, relationships, and events.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of new opportunities and programs to support small businesses in Flint & Genesee County.
  • Work with Events Manager to coordinate events
  • One-on-one meeting intake and triage of small business clients
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements

Minimum education and skills requirements:

  1. Associate’s degree in Business, Marketing, Communications or other related field preferred.
  2. Mission-driven, to support Genesee County’s economy.
  3. Desire to help small business owners.
  4. Some knowledge of the issues and challenges facing small business in Flint & Genesee County.
  5. Strong organizational skills and ability to transfer detailed notes to internal data management system. (HubSpot)
  6. Ability to communicate well (public speaking and writing)
  7. Ability to collaborate with a team on projects and tasks.
  8. Capacity to work independently with a high level of integrity.
  9. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
