Role Description The Safety Manager is a full-time, on-site role based in Flint, MI, responsible for planning, implementing, and monitoring safety policies and programs across construction projects. This role conducts regular jobsite inspections, hazard assessments, and audits to ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety standards. The Safety Manager leads safety orientations and ongoing training for employees and subcontractors, promotes a culture of safety, and supports supervisors in enforcing safe work practices. Daily responsibilities include investigating incidents and near misses, preparing reports, maintaining safety documentation, and tracking corrective actions. The Safety Manager also collaborates with project managers, field leaders, and subcontractors to integrate safety into project planning, pre-task planning, and daily operations.

Qualifications

  • Experience in construction safety management, preferably in commercial, industrial, or institutional construction environments.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, construction safety standards, and best practices for hazard identification and risk mitigation.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct safety inspections, audits, incident investigations, and root-cause analyses.
  • Effective communication, training, and coaching skills to engage team members at all levels on safety expectations and practices.
  • Proven ability to develop, implement, and maintain safety programs, procedures, and documentation.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities on active jobsites.
  • Proficiency with basic office software (e.g., email, spreadsheets, word processing) and familiarity with digital safety reporting tools is preferred.
  • Relevant safety certifications such as OSHA 30-Hour, CHST, CSP, or equivalent are highly desirable.
  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in safety, construction management, engineering, or a related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and field experience.
  • Ability to work on-site daily in Flint, MI, and travel to regional jobsites as needed.
